The town is situated from the high part of the Moselotte valley, at 57 km of Epinal, at 14 km of Gérardmer from the Col of Grosse Pierre and at 54 km of Colmar by Col of la Schlucht. It is linked to the Thur valley and Mulhouse city at 63 km by the Col of Bramont (956 meters of height).
La Bresse is borded with Metzeral in the East, with Wildenstein in the South-East, with Cornimont in the South, with Rochesson in the West, with Gérardmer in the North-West, with Xonrupt-Longemer in the North and with Stosswihr in the North-East.
The highest point of the town is the hohneck at 1363 meters of height, also highest point of the department and of the region, the lowest at 580 meters at the exit of the Moselotte.
