In winter, in the Hautes Vosges, the Mountain Law is mandatory (even if this winter period 2022/2023, the government extends the tolerance to favor the educational approach). As traffic conditions can be difficult, the law stipulates that in winter, "it is compulsory to equip your vehicle with winter tires or to have chains or snow socks in certain communes of the mountainous massifs (Alps, Corsica, Massif Central, Jura massif, Pyrenees, Vosges massif). 34 departments are subject to the obligation."
